2 – Beltzville State Park

Also located approximately 10 miles from Effort, Beltsville State Park is a Pennsylvania state park covering almost three thousand acres. It is in Franklin and Towamensing townships in Carbon County. First opened in 1972, it was developed around the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers flood control project, the Beltzville Dam. If you wish to have fun in the form of fishing and hunting, this is the nearest local attraction if you’re staying in Effort. The Beltzville Lake for one is a very popular fishing destination where anglers get to fish for largemouth and smallmouth bass, trout, striped bass, walleye, muskellunge, and perch. Meanwhile, Beltzville State Park also permits hunting. But the same as other hunting areas, there are rules and regulations to follow and they’re set out by the Pennsylvania Game Commission. The common game species in the area are squirrels, ruffed grouse, white-tailed deer, rabbits, waterfowl, and pheasants. There’s also a swimming beach open from late May up to the middle of September. Other interesting amenities are the four picnic pavilions, hiking trails, large picnic areas, playgrounds, and modern restrooms.

3 – Big Pocono State Park

The last option on this list is the Big Pocono State Park, which is quite close to Effort (8 miles). The park is smaller than the previous one we discussed, but it doesn’t lack the fine amenities and fun features. It is on Camelback Mountain and currently maintained by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and the Natural Resources and Camelback Ski Corporation. One of the best things to do in this park is hiking. The hiking trail system is seven miles long and has many interconnecting trails. The terrain and grade vary, so park officials always remind first-time hikers to inquire at the park office when planning to go to the steep and rocky north trail. Aside from the hiking trails, there is also a horseback riding trail, three picnic areas with fifty tables, and some amazing wooded settings. There are also several designated areas in the park which are intended for hunting. However, they are only accessible during hunting season.
